The night in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, was shaken by powerful explosions as Israeli warplanes carried out airstrikes on Houthi-controlled areas.
Local sources reported that power plants, military sites, and areas near the presidential palace were targeted. The strikes shattered windows and damaged several buildings. The Houthi-run health authorities confirmed at least two people were killed and more than 30 others were wounded and taken to hospitals.
Footage shared on social media showed flames rising from an oil facility. Residents described thick smoke billowing over Sabeen Square and said the city was rocked by heavy blasts.
The Israeli military stated that the operation targeted strategic facilities supporting Houthi military activities. Officials in Tel Aviv said the attack was in response to the Houthis’ recent launch of a cluster bomb-equipped missile toward Israel.
The Houthis, however, vowed the strikes would not deter them, declaring they would continue launching missiles and drones against Israel in what they call support for Gaza.
Regional experts noted that the Houthis’ latest missile technology appears to be backed by Iran and poses new challenges for Israel’s air defense systems.
