The international Peace Summit aimed at ending the Israel-Palestine conflict kicked off today in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The summit brings together Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

The summit aims to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure long-term adherence to the agreement. More than 20 world leaders are attending, with the summit jointly chaired by Presidents Sisi and Trump.

Ahead of the summit, indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel led to the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire. As part of this, 20 Israeli hostages were released from Gaza, while Israel freed 250 Palestinian prisoners. However, negotiations for the second phase of the agreement are scheduled in the coming days, with Hamas demanding a complete Israeli withdrawal and the preservation of its weapons.

During the summit, President Erdoğan emphasized that lasting peace requires cooperation between all parties. He highlighted the importance of including President Abbas, the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, in the process and called on the international community to take responsibility for ensuring sustainable peace in Gaza.

Other leaders attending the summit also stressed the importance of humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza following the conflict. President Trump stated that achieving permanent peace between Israel and Palestine is critical for regional stability.

The summit’s objective is not only to strengthen the current ceasefire but also to create an international support mechanism for the long-term peace process between Israel and Palestine.
