Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has traveled to Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh to attend the “Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit”, where world leaders — including U.S. President Donald Trump — will finalize the terms of the Gaza ceasefire agreement and discuss the reconstruction of the enclave.All eyes are on Sharm el-Sheikh today, as global leaders gather following the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire to determine the next steps toward a lasting peace.According to a statement from the Egyptian Presidency, the summit will be held this afternoon at the Sharm el-Sheikh International Conference Center. Its aim is to end the war in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter for regional security and cooperation.The summit will be co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump. Among the participants are Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, French President Emmanuel Macron, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, along with leaders from over 20 countries.The UN Secretary-General António Guterres and European Council President António Costa are also expected to attend the high-level meeting.However, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that no Iranian officials would be present at the summit. The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Israel would not take part, while the Palestinian Authority has not yet issued an official statement on its participation.According to Qatari and U.S. media, representatives from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia are also expected to attend, though the level of their representation has not been specified.Gaza Ceasefire BackgroundOn October 9, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed on the first phase of a ceasefire plan during ongoing talks in Egypt.The agreement was signed in Cairo and, following the Israeli government’s approval, officially took effect on October 10.As stipulated in the deal, Israeli forces withdrew to the “yellow line,” and the ceasefire came into force across the Gaza Strip at 12:00 noon on the same day.
