U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted Turkey’s crucial role in helping to achieve the ceasefire in Gaza, offering high praise for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “Erdoğan was fantastic, he was really very helpful. He’s a highly respected leader. He has a very strong nation and a very powerful army,” Trump said.Speaking to reporters aboard his plane en route to the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit in Egypt, Trump emphasized that several Muslim-majority countries — including Turkey, Qatar, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates — played significant roles in bringing about the truce. When asked whether the ceasefire would hold, Trump replied:
“The war is over. It’s over, do you understand?”He noted that there are many reasons for the ceasefire to last, explaining, “People are tired — not just recently, but for centuries people have been exhausted by conflict. I think everyone now knows their place. It will be great for Israel, for the Muslim countries around it, for everyone. I believe it will stay that way.”Trump also said he didn’t believe an international force would be needed in Gaza. When asked, “When will Gaza become a riviera?” he answered, “I don’t know. We need to take care of the people there first. The place is completely in ruins right now.”Asked if he would visit Gaza, Trump responded, “I would love to. It would be an honor. I can see it now without stepping in, but I’d love to set foot there one day. Gaza will be a magnificent miracle in the coming decades.”
