Slovenian President: Europe Must Not Stay Silent on Israel's Actions

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar warned that the international community's silence over Israel's settlement expansion could lead to the complete disappearance of the Palestinian state.

Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar warned that the international community’s silence over Israel’s settlement expansion could lead to the complete disappearance of the Palestinian state.

In her statement, Musar reaffirmed her country’s firm support for the two-state solution and an independent Palestine, saying:

“If Israel continues expanding settlements, the Palestinian state will effectively cease to exist. We cannot remain silent about this.”

The Slovenian leader also criticized the European Union’s inconsistent stance on the Gaza war, adding:

“Europe was united on Ukraine, but divided on Gaza. Some countries are still selling weapons to Israel — this is blatant hypocrisy.”

Musar stressed that what is happening in Gaza is “a violation of human dignity” and that the international community must present a genuine peace plan.

“A Europe that claims to defend human rights cannot stay silent while children die under the bombs,” she said.

Earlier this year, Slovenia imposed a complete ban on the trade and transit of weapons to and from Israel and declared two Israeli ministers persona non grata.

Musar condemned Israel’s continued obstruction of humanitarian aid to Gaza:

“According to UN data, Israel has rejected hundreds of aid requests in recent weeks. People are starving, and the world remains silent.”

She also proposed deploying a UN-supervised international peacekeeping force in Gaza to ensure the protection of civilians and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Musar acknowledged that Hamas’ attacks were “horrific,” but said Israel’s response had been disproportionate and destructive.

“If we impose sanctions on Russia for violating international law, why should Israel be treated differently?”

The Slovenian president concluded by saying that lasting peace in Palestine can only be achieved through a fair political and humanitarian solution, adding:

“As long as injustice continues, peace will remain impossible.”
