At Least 21,000 Children Disabled in Gaza Since War Began

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has reported that at least 21,000 children have been disabled in Gaza since the conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, 2023.

According to the committee’s data, nearly 40,500 children have suffered “new war-related injuries” in the almost two years since the war started, with more than half left with permanent disabilities. UN officials emphasized that this situation constitutes a severe humanitarian crisis for children in Gaza.

Experts note that the war has affected children not only through direct violence but also via infrastructure destruction, lack of access to healthcare, and psychological trauma. The committee called on the international community to provide urgent medical and rehabilitation support for children in Gaza.
